This was a REAL Cthulhu movie, it's based off the story "Shadow Over Innsmouth." Which only spoke of Cthulhu, but the dark entity was never in the story. "The Call of Cthulhu" featured Cthulhu itself, not the Shadow over Innsmouth. I found the film to be a fantastic modernization of Lovecraft's erotic, and lush prose, and dreamlike horror.
No a REAL Cthulhu movie is 'The Call Of Cthulhu' from 2005 created by the H .P. Lovecraft Historical Society, it actually follows the original story in a way that few 'Lovecraft' films do and doesn't hit you over the head with a DeCouteauish homo-erotic subtext which was never present in Lovecraft's "The Call Of Cthulhu" or "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", plus it was made on a shoestring budget for far less than whatever this 2008 mess cost and it actually has Cthulhu in it.
