First a deranged fangirl, now a deranged fan*boy.* Sonic the Hedgehog ran and ran with all his might, but he just couldn't shake off little Miles "Tails" Prower, and he had to hand it to the kid... being able to keep up with HIM...

But that's the least of Sonic's worries. West Side Island has become a second South Island--Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik is up to his old tricks once again, forcing innocent wildlife to serve as the power source for his robot minions. Eggman isn't the only thing to have made a reappearance on West Side Island, though... the Chaos Emeralds have resurfaced after their sudden disappearance on South Island, and for Sonic, the race is on once again to retrieve the mystic gems before the not-so-good doctor can utilize them in his latest doomsday scheme...

And what is that ominous shadow hovering in the sky...?

STAGE 1: EMERALD HILL ZONE

Essentially, this level is the second Green Hill Zone. The addition of corkscrews and robot monkeys does little to hide the rather shameless similarity, but on a gameplay level, Emerald Hill is every bit as good as its predecessor and then some. The removal of the running-speed cap that held Sonic 1 back makes this an awesomely fast level whether you have the Speed Shoe power-up at the time or not, but the stage's two acts can consequently go by so fast you might not even notice you played them.

The boss, which like Cybershell13 before me I shall refer to as the "Patheticmobile," is one of the most laughably easy bosses in the history of 2D Sonic, although it still feels less mindless than a lot of the bosses in Sonic Adventure.

  • I won't be getting the Chaos Emeralds at all when I play the game for my LP channel. I'll also have Elliot control Tails with a second controller. It should be quite fun.

  • @SomecallmeJohnny

Fair enough, you already got them for BrainScratch and owned half the game as Super Sonic as a result.

I spread out the Emeralds over a bunch of zones and then hold off on getting the last one until Metropolis Zone Act 2 (I think). There's going to be a bit of Super Sonic, but not enough that it dominates the playthrough.

  • Awesome, as always. One thing though; we can hear the volume from the game in your mic as you're recording, and it results in an echo-like thing that's a little distracting. Good otherwise, though.

  • @ExandShadow

I noticed that while editting, but it's too later to do anything about it now. I can't re-do the commentary--not without it being considerably worse, anyway.

  • I think the reason why people love sonic and tails is because they think its a great dyamic duo

  • @mdh0422

The characters themselves are awesome, it's just the "Sonic & Tails" gameplay duo that bugs me. Granted, this is a lot better in S3&K, where Tails can help during gameplay by airlifting Sonic to places he otherwise couldn't reach, and where Tails is a complete and utter non-entity during Special Stages. It only bugs me in Sonic 2.

  • Hey, Solaris, are you Emulating this? usually that strip of video on the bottom occurs on the emulated copies... so i'm curious

  • @SolarisParadox Tails wasn't ever a girl you know, that's just a rumor.

  • You kinda remind me of Cybershell13 just a bit more downbeat, which is a good thing. Surprised you didn't mention more how pathetic this stages boss is as it's probably one of the easiest bosses of all time.

  • love the sonic shorts reference

  • POOR TAILS ALL HE WANTED WAS SOME LOVE... AND SCREEN TIME

  • Haha i love that animation of Sonic telling tails to get out of his game lol so funny where did you get that animation from? was gonna do an LP of sonic 2 but like you say its been LP'd into the ground by other LP'ers so might do Sonic 2 LP Knuckles run through haven't seen so many of those

  • I AM SEGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Goodlord. THe beginniung of the video.

  • i felt bad for tails he semed so sad that he couldnt be in the game

  • Sonic 2... The game that really brought the series to life for me... Aaah...

Anyway, Having Sonic AND Tails seems to only be good if you have 2 players, Personally, I always use Tails, it just sucks that he can't go super until you freaking get all the emeralds, Chaos and Super, in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
