At a townhall meeting in May, Senator John McCain was cool to the idea of ending a federal moratorium on drilling offshore, but he now fully endorses removing federal restrictions on the drilling practice.

  • People are certainly suffering from outrageous gas prices, but offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico won't have any effect on gas prices. Even a 2007 Bush Administration energy report states that "access would not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil and natural gas production or prices before 2030." McCain's change of heart is nothing more than an election year ploy.

  • I don't understand. How will drilling not have any effect? We've been drilling the the Gulf of Mexico for a long time.

  • Offshore drilling will NOT reduce gas prices. Several countries allow offshore drilling, but their gas prices are even higher than ours: United Kingdom: $8.37; Norway $7.33; Germany, $6.72; Canada, $4.34; Japan, $4.16.

The price of oil is set on the world market. Ending the moratorium on offshore drilling in the United States likely would have no impact on gas prices. Despite two record-breaking lease sales in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico this year alone, prices continue to skyrocket.

  • Furthermore, exploration of new areas to drill won't yield any oil for 5-10 years.

  • mccain is an ass.

  • 4. if the govt. persuaded detroit to IMPROVE THE GAS MILEAGE in new cars by 2010. and 5. BRING BACK THE MANDATORY 55 MILE AN HOUR SPED LIMIT!!

  • i have 5 ways we can bring down energy prices. 1.CARPOOLING. if 5 folks were in a car, usually driven by 1, there would be 4 less cars on our nations highways. 2.if the govt. would spend more money on PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. if P.T.were attractive, affordable and comfortable more americans might sacrifice their cars at least 4 days a week.3 if the govt. EXPANDED AMTRAK to 48 states and called it THE NATIONAL RAIL SYSTEM.

  • McCain is awesome.

    I like Obama too.

    Both are good people.

    So no hating, people.

  • At least he's smart enough to change to help the country. Others tend to think we should just suffer.
