Congressman Trent Franks challenges the language of an amendment to the the National Defense Authorization Bill.
In the amendment, Congressman Alcee Hastings proposed that those people labeled as "extremists" by the Attorney General should not be allowed to serve in the military. However, earlier in the year, Attorney General Janet Napolitano's department issued a report in which the term "extremist" is applied to a wide variety of Americans, including pro-lifers, opponents of big government, and opponents of illegal immigration.
Congressman Franks is requesting assurances that those Americans will not be labeled "extremists" under Congressman Hastings' amendment, as such a label would render them unable to serve in the military.
Once the federal manages to get a person's name on a "list", they can do all the background checks they want.
The DHS should do their first check on Obama.

With reports from DHS about rightwing extremism, I fear that the language the bill uses would be used in concert with what DHS deems terrorists
