Almost a Legend gives an insight into the colourful life and acid wit of lyricist Fran Landesman. The film takes us back to 40s New York, 50s St. Louis and 60s London, as Fran, together with husband Jay, reminiscence about their extraordinary lives and encounters that shaped her as a writer.
Fran's lyrics have been recorded by dozens of artists, including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Shirley Bassey, Chet Baker, Tony Bennett, Miles Davis, Bob Dorough, Mark Murphy, Anita O'Day, Chaka Khan, Jackie and Roy and, most recently, Barbara Streisand.
Her musical collaborators include Tommy Wolf, Bob Dorough, Dudley Moore, Georgie Fame and Simon Wallace.
The documentary features music and interviews with Bob Dorough, Carolyn Cassady, Gwyneth Herbert, Mark Murphy and, of course, performances by Fran herself. The film is a musical celebration of the mind behind some of the most powerful, yet underappreciated lyrics and poems of our time.

She wrote the words to the song that is probably my favorite ballad of all time, Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most.
