The folks at NASA have an internal betting pool running on the timing and extent of sea ice melt in the Arctic as climate change reaches the tipping point and an ice free North Pole is upon us.

  • The IPCC estimates are far too optimistic. Thats the problem. The entire sea around the north pole is now ice free. A new record high. The problem is the loss of albedo. This leads to a far swifter warming of polar water than expected. And this affects the movement of the global conveyor belt. Another problem is that until now the oceans have absorbed a great deal of our CO2. But that the limit of absorption is close.

  • Thanks for uploading. While this is quite disturbing information, it's something people have to know. We may or may not be responsible for the majority of recent global warming, but our CO2 emissions cannot be helping Earth cool back down. I mean look at Venus, It is so hot because it has a whole lot of CO2. And while our planet won't get that bad because a lot of CO2 is locked away, we do have water all over. And as the Earth heats up, more will be put into our atmosphere.
