Still not there yet but I just wanted to upload a video to see how it works. I'm playing a transcription from Joshua Paxton of James Booker's Pixie from the album Junco Partner on my CP33 piano.

  • Thank you, it is indeed tricky and I wouldn't be able to play it without the book. All those different syncopated rhythms (sometimes four 2 for each hand) made it to difficult for me to figure it out by ear and play it by memory. I did study it "the classical way" so being able to read was a necessity for me. Oh, and don't be discouraged, have fun. I still laugh when I make mistakes.

  • i just bought that book about a month ago. how long did it take you to learn this song?

  • 2 months, expected to do this in 1 month but it was hard to make the rhythm go fluently through the whole piece. I think I have over-practiced it with 1 hour a day and it is still not up there but I do like the performance. Have to do this on a real piano one day. But this is a hard one it will always take a few hours to keep up.

  • yea, the timing is off a little, but it still sounds great. i still watch it a few times a week. i don't know how easy it is for you to learn songs, but it feels like it's gonna take me forever to get both hands down together.

  • Yeah, it's Booker with a difficult style that was unique. I practiced it real slow and then I concentrated on the left hand. I already knew the song because it is on one of my favorite CD's. But making the rhytm work required a lot of patience and discipline.

  • Awesome. huge booker fan. i can play a page of it but its too damn hard for me. you played great. thanks for posting.

  • Thank you, yes it is hard. Concentrate on the left hand first , make it run fluently so that you can feel confident with it. If you can do that you own half the piece. Hope that helps.

    Greetings,

    Maarten

  • Awesome, this is a VERY tricky piece of music, way beyond my musical horizon, and you play it like that atter a mere two months? This is discouraging, I should stop playing ...

Booker's music is fascinating and incredibly complex, yet when watching it on the keyboard it looks so fluent and easy. You are very, very impressive - hat off!

Being able to read music will probably help; I do have the book myself but cannot read music, so my learning is by slowed-down recordings, making it even harder.

  • Amazing Playing..

  • Blijft leuk om te horen.
