This modification causes MG1 to spin much faster than it should spin, and also relies more on the battery pack having to charge it much faster, so long term damage can occur.

If Toyota changed their batteries to the same as the Nissan Leaf they could give the prius a 160km+ range. Why are they sticking with this old tech?
