De nieuwe Volvo V40: Pedestrian Airbag Technology

The Volvo V40 features newly developed Pedestrian Airbag Technology, which is a world first. Sensors in the front bumper register the physical contact between the car and the pedestrian. The rear end of the bonnet is released and at the same time elevated by the deploying airbag. The inflated airbag covers the area under the raised bonnet plus approximately one third of the windscreen area and the lower part of the A-pillar.

Yeah it aint about cost to volvo because it wont cost them anything, they will make money from it. how much of a bump does it take to activate the airbag and who has to pay to get it replaced. what happens if you give the car ahead a slight bump, does that mean ur airbag goes off an you have to get it replaced?

Accordingly to Volvo, these sensors can see the difference between a wall and a pedestrian. In case of a serieus hit on wall, the drivers airbag will go off, not the pedestrian airbag. And most Volvo drivers care about others, not only themselves. Therefor they won't ignore this fabelous car when the want to buy a new car.

b1gun, this feature isn't about the costs of repear but all about the safety of the pedestrian unfortunate enough to land on your windscreen.

I won't get it's weird feature.. Paying extra for a benefit tat doesn't helps the comfort of driver.. Importantly drive safely and tis feature will be redundant,

You don't need to pay extra for this pedestrian airbag, every Volvo V40 has the airbag as standard equipment. It is important to drive safely, but not everybody is that carefull on they road. This feature is for them! Most Volvo drivers don't just buy stuff for themselves but think about the others as well.
