Energy, You Make the World Go Round (The Universe of Energy)

Here is a quick clip from Epcot Center. This is the Energy segment from the preshow of the Universe of Energy. Taped in May of 1983 (by a friend of my dad), enjoy this rare video of one great song.

It's amazing that this was filmed in May 1983. Most people just had old-fashioned cini-film cameras at that time, not modern-style video recorders. Great quality and sound too. I wonder how much footage your Dad's friend has from that trip? It was more than 5 years after this before my family went to EPCOT for the first time.

Just some footage of your generic attractions that still existed when you went. I know, we were lucky to get some stuff long before people had video cameras, in fact, not everyone had VCR's. If you think is amazing, check out Disneyland's 25th Aniversary parade, where someone had a video camera in 1980.

The song was written by songwriting team Joel Hirschhorn & Al Kasha, whom also wrote the songs to Disney's "Pete's Dragon" and "David Copperfield" (1993) starring Julian Lennon and Sheena Easton.

Wrong, this song was written by Robert Moline, who also wrote "Listen to the Land," "Canada," and co wrote "Golden Dreams." Hirschhorn and Kasha wrote the other song, "Universe of Energy."

Err...methinks not 1983. The moving squares in the Radok screen (named after Emil Radok, the filmmaker who designed it) were not operational until 1984. Perhaps 1993?

This was early 80's, because they still had Magic Journey's at Journey Into Imagination at the time.

I hate what they've done to the universe of engergy now. I miss this preshow and the great original Universe of Energy song. I do have this song and can give it to you in high quality if you ever want to redub this. Thanks for putting up such a great memory.

wow, I remember the ride when it was like this. but as many others are saying, yes it is very boring to a kid the age I was back when it was this way.

The new one is less boring than the old one, that I will admit, informative and all but, I fell asleep though most, - but I really like this mini ballad. I have the Disney Parks soundtrack with this song on it. I always thought it would make a nice mainstream love song if the lyrics were changed.

I miss the EPCOT of old, as you describe here. The EPCOT with the sleek, monochrome view of the future, full of optimism and wonder. I'm so glad I got to experience it a few times before they changed it all.
