After shooting a midnight walk recounting the Villisca axe murder confession of Rev. Lyn George Kelly with historian Dr. Edgar Epperly for the documentary "Villisca: Living with a Mystery", Ed sat down to answer a few questions. This particular question deals with whether the Villisca crime may have been the work of an early serial killer. The entire Q & A was included in the DVD "Exploring Villisca's Axe Murder House" & "Slay and Slay Utterly: Reverend Kelly's Confession." The murder house is owned by the Olson-Linn Museum in Villisca, Iowa.

  • lena was 12 years old and ina was 8 years old

  • It's possible that Rev. Kelly was involved with the other murders, but no link between him and any of the other murder sites has been discovered.

  • Removing the lamp chimney reduces the light output to the level of a candle. The killer used the back of the axe to strike most of the victims.

  • Why the children? Why would he want to kill the children? You know, the Villisca Murder was a two family murder. Herman (age 11) Katherine Moore (age 10) Boyd Moore (age 7) Paul Moore (age 5) Lena Stillinger age 11...same as me, how horrible) and Ina Stillinger (age 8)...so sad for these children :(

  • Very interesting.
