this is a how to video for the Russian Mosin Nagant. the trigger on the Mosin is notoriously stiff and has a long pull. this mod makes the trigger pull a bit softer, shorter, and more predictable. i have found that this mod makes me less jerky on trigger pull and way more accurate out at the range. watch my 450 yard video to see what im talking about.

step 1. obtain a spring and washer like in my video. spring can be found on many types of womens hair clips, staple removers, chip bag clips...etc...you might still have to do some modding of your spring to make it fit right. the washer i used is oretty thin, about the thickness of a credit card, and i wouldnt go any thicker as your bolt might slide out of the rifle during cycling of the action. see what works for you, each rifle is different.
step 2. take your Mosin apart.
step 3. unbolt the sear spring and install washer under spring. remember, you need to file part of the washer flat so it doesnt get in the way of the magazine during installation.
step 4. with washer installed youll notice a softer trigger with less pull before firing pin release. youll also notice that now the trigger has some slop before spring engagement.
step 5. push your trigger pin out and install spring. you will most llikely need to bend your spring a bit to get it to fit right. took me a good 15 mins of work to get mine to the right fit. install spring and push trigger pin back in place.
step 6. make sure your bolt opperates correctly and so does the trigger. if your washer is too thich the bolt may not stay in the rifle during cycling and/or your trigger may not even function. dont worry though, your bolt isnt going to come flying out of the rifle or anything like that, this isnt possible just by performing this mod...but if you dont believe me, investigate it for yourself, im not responsible for your injuries or death.
step 7. put your rifle back together and make sure everything still operates properly.

you should quickly notice at the range that your mosin is more accurate and predictable. be careful though, this mod makes the trigger very very sensative. the slightest pull on the trigger (past slack take up) will release the firing pin. dry fire a few times to get the feel of your new trigger first.

  • Looks simple enough and it looks like it works. I'll try it on one of my 1936.

  • @CazadoresLatinosDePA yup, pretty simple. Im sure youll like how the new trigger feels. let us know how it goes.

  • Do you have an exact name/ product number of those clippers you have?

  • @Deathofblades dont have the packaging anymore but I bought them at target. Ive heard a staple remover spring works well too. I think you can read the label a bit in the video.

  • @Deathofblades well give it a try I guess and see what happens. Im really not 100% sure why its doing that. obviously check for the stupid stuff too like debris in the way or mounting the spring upside down...you never know.

  • @ericzanutto Well I didn't file the washer out because I wanted to test if the washer would give it the lighter trigger pull then I would file it; however, that wasn't the case. You can sand a washer to be thinner?? What didn't I think of that?! Also I don't have any files in my household but tons of sand paper lol

  • @ToniKhoury83 yes, works just fine without the spring. your trigger will just have a little slop in it. the spring takes up this slop.

  • @Deathofblades I dont have anymore measurements on the washer and I really dont want to take my rifle apart right now. Did you file the one end of the washer off like I showed in the video? can you see the washer interfering with anything? it almost sounds like to me your washer is too thick. this would push the spring away from the trigger...maybe not engage the bolt? washer should only be about 2mm thick. try sanding it thinner.

  • Can you be a bit more specific with the washer. I bought a quarter inch wide washer and it was one of the smallest at my local home depot had and it did not let me pull the trigger.

  • Does this work without the spring and without the spring how uncomfortable is it to fire??
