This masterpiece, the Fantasia in C, Op. 159 (D. 934) was written in 1827, the same year as the two piano trios and the song cycle, Die Winterreise, It was composed for the very young Czech violinist, Josef Slawjk and the pianist C.M. von Bocklet. • Addendum: does this exist anywhere on CD (or mp3, for that matter)? I searched, but only found it as part of a 10-CD set.

  • Phenomenal performance -- instantly one of my favorites of this extraordinary masterpiece. I've heard many recordings, and this ranks among the top 2 or 3. Love Oistrakh, love Schubert, and love the Fantasy -- such a varied, haunting, magical, and devilishly difficult piece. The opening alone is one of the most beautiful and profound in all chamber music.

  • Wow!!!!!!! Thanks!!
