I think you just need to get used to using the giant clip... I, myself, have NO IDEA about cutting them up into clips. I'm pretty sure there is a help thingy on Vegas somewhere which tells you what you can and cannot do. Sorry i'm not much help! But something is better than nothing, eh?

I think you can split it into smaller clips using the trimmer option.

I am not lucky enough to have Sony Vegas 9.0. I have 6.0. T-T
Anywho. I had the same problem. You see I just make my videos on WMM and then import it into Sony Vegas, because you can't really split the clips. (Or...at least I haven't figured it out yet after a year..o-o)
Or...If you want you can take that giant clip and split it on your own in Sony Vegas and use it to make your videos. Yet, the separate clips won't be saved. You can't get rid of the large clip. T-T
