The Pacific Salmon Foundation recently invested $100,000 to conserve Pacific salmon habitat through the creation of a 161-acre park called Bear Creek Nature Park along the Oyster River on Vancouver Island. The investment was made in partnership with Ducks Unlimited Canada and a private land owner.

The new park features a flood-plain wetland, salmon hatchery operated by Oyster River Enhancement Society and an upland second growth forest with walking and equestrian trails. The Oyster River flows northeast across central Vancouver Island halfway between Courtenay and Campbell River.
