These two hoppers are located deep in the woods in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. The beginning is a camp that my brothers and I often camped at when we were kids (and still camp at every great once in a while). The hoppers have been there since before I was born and they marked the end of the railroad tracks in St. Bernard parish until hurricane Katrina. Music is Nine Inch Nails (28 Ghosts IV)

*EDIT* I recently learned more information on these hoppers. They were put in place as "bumpers" to mark the end of the tracks when the stretch of rail that they sit on was built in 1960. The rail was built to service the Toca gas plants and extended from existing rails in Poydras. The tracks sit near, but not directly in place of, an older set of tracks that once stretched all the way to Fort Proctor (locally known as Fort Beauregard).

  • Katrina did not affect them?

  • @jeepers2655 The salt water accelerated the rot. That's about it.

  • did you used to play on them when you were kids?

  • @w1ldyovvnz All the time, but they were pretty solid back then.

  • @Evansville64 Releasing the brakes would be interesting, they're giant hunks of rust, lol. As for rolling, they wouldn't go far. Louisiana is flatter than the bottom of a frying pan.

  • make a vid and get in it

  • wonder what rr did the hopper cars belonged to? Would be nice, a railroad museum could get them and restore them but they would have to be refitted with roller bearing trucks and modern air brake lines and hoses.

  • @SilentEagles read the description

  • thats sad such nice cars just rotting away in silet agony

  • They appear to have friction bearing trucks, so movement on most major rail lines would be a FRA no no....

  • @nineinchnail1024

Why did they left those hopper car there is just wasting it.

  • Why are those two Hopper cars just sitting there on a railroad that's no longer in use rotting away?

  • cut them up and recycle them.

  • AWESOME VIDEO. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS.

  • Yup its sad. Soon it be just nothing there later on like they werent even there once the roting is complete no one will ever know they exsist. You have a good piece of history :)
