22nd April 2011 - SYRIA (Deir al-Zour): Protesters burn a statue of Basel Al-Assad, President Bashar Al-Assad's dead brother.

Storyful Update: '...President Bashar Al-Assad ordered large scale deployment of security forces ahead of Friday's protests against his regime. Checkpoints and blockades were reported in many towns including Homs, Daraa and the capital, Damascus. On Thursday the government attempted to appease protesters, after six weeks of massive protests, by lifting the 48-year state of emergency. A violent crackdown on recent weeks' protests has left over 200 dead so far, according to Amnesty International, but has failed to stop widespread demonstrations.

The deadly crackdown has not stopped protesters venting their fury on symbols of the regime. The uploader of this video says it shows a crowd attacking a statue of Basel Al-Assad, President Bashar Al-Assad's dead brother, in Deir al-Zour on Friday...'
