In all seriousness, if time travel was EVER made possible...this is the first game I would go back in time to, get a seat near the north cheer squad...that would be sweet
Mate totally agree. I loved McAdam and he was a freak with the ball. If he had Abletts, Careys or Locketts courage, North Melbourne would have dominated a lot more. Luckily his weakness everyone knew, still today he was one of my favourite players despite only lasting so long.
North isolated McAdam in the goalsquare instead of the pocket to highlight how Gayfer would play on him. The umps gave McAdam everything that day & people said it was the end of Gayfer's career. Sadly, it was also the worst thing that could happen to McAdam as well as from the very next week (against WC) onwards he spent the rest of his career ducking and diving for easy free kicks instead of going for the hard ball. A great day for the mighty Roos but the beginning of the end for such a talent
With the footage of Daniel Motlop and his tricks doing the rounds at the moment it is worth mentioning that McAdam had the same sort of freakish skills. Apparently he used to kick the ball from big distances and land it in rubbish bins at Arden Street
Many regard McAdam as the most gifted NT player in history - I find it difficult to disagree with them. The reason he fell from greatness was simply that he lost interest. His brother moved interstate to play with the Bears, leaving Adrian on his own and dissatisfied with living in Melbourne and playing AFL. A massive loss, could have been anything!
Dont you just love it how the ferals Yell BALL when McAdam hanballed to Carey!! LOL
