The narrator appear to be speaking sarcastically in a very hypocritic manner. It's as if Von Braun's accomplishments were just his instead of that of the entire U.S.

@EdwardJellico completely correct. And we know the Russians or Soviets back then...wanted him specifically as well. Though that's not to say that Sergey Korolev wasn't a genius in his own right.

Correction: the Latin quote is the following: " Per ardua ad astra" which means 'Through difficulties towards the stars'; it's also the motto of the Royal Air Force.

Von Braun have always been a very determined man; if the death of the 3 astronauts caused the program to a halt, it only made von Braun more determined. I think when man reached the moon, von Braun was so enthusiastic in reaching Mars afterwards, but all the others weren't, for they were contented with reaching the moon alone. If only they were as enthusiaistic and determined as von Braun have been, man have, or is close to, reaching Mars

Ad Astra per Aspera was also Jack Parson's motto. I wonder how much Von Braun and the self proclaimed anti-Christ (founder of JPL) had shared knowledge? This Jack Parsons had a lot of powerful connections and Von Braun keeps popping up in my research.
