  • Great video. I don't think Searle intended to disprove AI, he just wanted to point out how misleading/pointless it is to say that a non-human "understands" something without knowing the physical basis for understanding in humans.

  • @ayoopdog lol well i posted this comment when he mentioned quantum physics and i immediately wanted more hahaha

  • @alecazam3567 this isn't quantum physics! it's cognitive science.

  • thank you! you helped me with my in-class essay :D

  • Great video!

  • after watching this i feel stupid rewatch

  • wtf is ancient mandarin? In any case, I think was not trying to tell which scenario is true or false. Based on the first conclusion that "oh the machine understands chinese", he swaps the "machine" for a person in a box with a manual. Thus the person in a box/room is like the machine and produces the same results. However, looking at it this way, we know that the person inside the room doesnt actually understand Chinese, but rather follows the manual religiously to come up with the output.

  • You should do a Commentary of were you see yourself in five years because your actually intellectual with your subs in your videos.

  • i love quantum physics. More please. Do more Sushi! O.o

  • in my opinion you can make something clear of the experiment, in fact now i believe that strong AI is impossible. Because the person in the room will eventuelly learn chinese while the computer will just repeat the process without a ''deeper understanding'' of it. This lack of deeper understandig is provided by the fact that the computer it's not a concious being, becuase concious beings like us tend to fail, so a strong AI will also fail at the end
