Here is a clip of KG2RG working in the big DX contest on 10-28-07. The band was so crowded as it usually is with a big contest. I added some clips of stations having a hard time with my call. These stations were very professional. I worked so many great stations and new countries. I worked several countries in Africa, and several stations from Japan. I worked just over 300 stations today. I could not find Australia. I will look for them tomorrow. I am not a contester. I was mainly just trying to work a lot of the DX. However, I think I may get into contesting after this. I really enjoyed this contest. 73 all, de KG2RG out!

  • The use of ITU phonetics in both tactical and formal message (record) traffic handling is essential for accurate and efficient communications. However, It has been my experience, when it comes to contesting and calling into a pile up, other words like RADIO GUATEMALA helped me win 1st place in the 2008 CQ WPX World Wide contest. But in less competitive situations like calling into a net, or just identifying in a rag chew, I will use the proper ITU phonetics.

  • The whole band jammed with a useless waist of airtime im sick of cq contests as thats all you here when the band is open, what happened to a simple chat

  • It was nice you exchanged cultural comments with Japan. You are 59 but repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat

  • there is a phonetic alphabet for a reason. i guarantee if you use it no one will have a problem with you call sign. i am in the Navy and work communications extensively using phonetics all day. making up what ever you want will not work. whiskey tango foxtrot over.

  • +1

Just read an article in QST on this very subject. June 2009, pg 97. I know I have to stop and think for a second when folks use 'different' phonetics.
