Talat Mahmood (Urdu: طلعت محمود) (February 24, 1924 May 9, 1998) was a popular Indian playback singer and film actor. A recipient of the Padma Bhushan, he was famous for his ghazals.

In 1949 Talat moved to Bombay, to sing for the Bombay film industry. His name and fame had already preceded him and soon he was flooded with offers. His big break came with the song "Ae dil mujhe aisi jagha le chal jahan koi na ho" composed by music-composer Anil Biswas for the soundtrack of the movie "Arzoo". The song proved to be very popular.

People who remember Talat describe his nature as a quiet one. He is often described as a decent man, as his voice reflected that decency and sense of calm. Music directors who worked with him claimed that when one would listen to him, you would get the feeling that he was a soft-hearted man. As Naushad aptly reflects about Talat; "Because one's character reflects one's art too".

Talat was considered a handsome man and a good singer, which prompted movie producers to try him as an actor. Talat acted in over a dozen films with top actresses of the time like Nutan, Mala Sinha, Suraiya and others. Later he decided no give up acting to concentrate on singing.

# In 1956, Talat became the first ever Indian playback singer to go abroad for commercial concerts.

# On Talat's US Concert Tour, Talat's popularity prompted famous New York television host Joe Franklin to invite Talat on his hugely popular programme "The Joe Franklin Show" watched by over 25 million Americans. He introduced Talat to American audiences as "The Frank Sinatra Of India!".

In 1979, Talat performed at the world renowned Royal Albert Hall. Talat was the second Indian playback singer after Lata Mangeshkar to be invited to perform at this historical venue..............

Asha Bhosle (Marathi: आशा भोंसले) (born September 8, 1933) is an Indian singer. She is best known as a Bollywood playback singer, although she has a much wider repertoire. Her career started in 1943 and has spanned over six decades. She has done playback singing for over 1000 Bollywood movies and sold many records. She is the sister of the equally accomplished Lata Mangeshkar.

Asha Bhosle has won seven Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards out of 18 nominations. She won her first two awards in 1967 and 1968, when Lata Mangeshkar still used to accept the award (Mangeshkar asked not to be considered for the award nominations after 1969 to promote new talent). After receiving the award in 1979, Bhosle emulated her elder sister and requested that her name not be considered for the nominations hereafter. Despite this, Bhosle is the most frequent winner of this award to date, tying with Alka Yagnik.

Asha Bhosle received Padma Vibhushan from President Pratibha Patil on Monday May 5, 2008.
