U.S. Basin Forest Road, San Juan County, Colorado, Jeep, Offroad, 4x4, Red Mountain Mining District

The U.S. Basin Forest Road in San Juan County, Colorado, takes you high above U.S. Basin, where you travel a ridge that's above 12,000 feet in elevation. You can see the Million Dollar Highway (Hwy 550) from the summit, as well as have an amazing 180-degree view of the surrounding mountains. The road begins in the Red Mountain Mining District.

Also, I chose your footage to comment on because of its spectacular beauty and cinematography, as well as it having the right feel and mood of what I am going for. I am still waiting for permission on the soundtrack to use over the footage which is 2008's "The Shining" by Richard Gale, with added interjections of Native American chanting. Whereas the novel takes place in Larimer County, Colorado, my adaptation is 40 miles west of Denver in Clear Creek County.

What format do you need the clips in? Not sure I still have the originals, as I usually delete for space once the video is up. Might have to re-capture...but let me know what size and format you want.

The Forest Service provides some really nice drives. You just have to know how to spot the brown signs going down the highway. I agree with the ghostrider. I'd wander out there till I died, or ran out of fuel and had to get a job.

Albuquerque708 is correct in saying that New Mexico is amazing. But I'm not sure NM, or anywhere else in the U.S. could compare the Colorado in the area of scenic grandeur.

Colorado is nice but New Mexico's County San Juan in NE, NM is more amazing. It has more off roading highways and byways. Try it out! Go to Farmington, NM and get a travel packet for the NE part of the state trust me. Compare it to Colorado.

The San Juans I always thought were perfect for this. For the intro I wanted lofty views of the isolated mountains with no road, absolutely nothing but moving expansive views of the San Juans. For the scene "Closing Day" I wanted images of either a vehicle snaking through the dirt mountain road, or views of the road from the vehicle just as you took.
