The whole thing was proper. Nothing wrong with what happened. The guy was already in their jurisdiction when he entered the bar. He didn't reserve any of his rights, so he had none.

he should have jumped into one of the lifeboats. If he'd had a bigger jib he might have been able to tack making the judge face starboard but this is the risk when in marine law.
