Gradual Make-and-Break of LED LoadCapacitors as accumulating units of electric charges and electric field energy are widely used in various radio-electronic appliances and electric devices. They are used for smoothing ripples in AC rectifiers, as well as for distributing AC and DC components in electrical oscillating circuits of radio transmitters and receivers. Capacitors are also used for accumulating large stocks of electric energy when conducting physical experiments in the area of laser technology and in many other aspects of modern electronics. One of the examples of using capacitors as accumulation source of electric charges is a simple circuit for a gradual change of LED glow in make-and-break modes. You can see several electrolytic capacitors with different capacity and voltage within 25 W. I have serially connected negative leads of capacitors into a common bus. Limiting resistors are serially connected between positive plates of capacitors. Resistors' ratings are selected according to the supply voltage of a common circuit and also according to the connected load. In this case I use LED load.So what happens in the circuit when power is supplied? Initially capacity is charging to a nominal value of the input voltage. Then the other ones are gradually charging with a small delay over even periods of time. Then charge voltage is gradually decreasing to a certain value. Thus we have voltage left on the last capacitor which is necessary for feeding LED load. The load itself must consume some current according to specifications of one or several LEDs, LED lamp, and even illumination lamp. This operation mode is necessary for incandescent lamps. What concerns LEDs, it's just pleasant to perceive it.
