I would argue the flankers do provide 'driving force' in the scrum, they are very important. Not only do they help hold the props back if using the 'hang' before the engage, they also help drive the props inwards and forwards.

I'm a flanker, 2nd row, number 8.. and fastest man on the team :S I'm 6ft and way around 13 stone should I try playing as a back for a bit ? :S
