Hey All,

It's been buggin me for awhile so I finally did it...
I took the Kent Armstrong Pickups out of the zentar (5 pickups and the wiring I had in mind is just stupid to be honest...) and took the duncans out of my M2. The duncans had aged well, but their output was too low, and very vintage sounding, which is fine, but not for a guitar like this, and I really don't like neck mini humbuckers.. I prefer a Single Coil in the neck..

Another thing that pissed me off about the guitar was the middle position switch, two humbuckers on.. not exactly a mind blowing good clean tone at all... so I took the 3 way 12 terminal switch of the zentar (it wasn't wired up anyways) and figured out a wiring that would give me a similar setting to the John petrucci wiring, since I always loved that middle position clean tone he gets fron the two inner coils of the humbuckers being on and out of phase.

Turned out good, no ground or noise, I'm pretty happy with myself, considering I haven't done any real work with electronics since 1997-98... lol....

enjoy,

DFZ.

p.s the wiring there will work on any two pickup hum and single coil guitar with any switch that as 12 terminals and uses the "ibanez config" ... the switch I used was the dreaded allparts switch...

  • Just wondering,,, do u have any sort of wiring diagram that would have 2 humbucker pickups and 1 single coil with only 1 vol and 1 tone.... and 5 way switch? cuz i am going to upgrade my guitar... thanks

  • @SlapTabs Hey, unless you're after anything specific, there are many wiring diagrams for guitars with that setup (hum single hum with five way switch), any ibanez wiring diagram will pretty much give you what you need. Thanks

  • i dont even LIKE that kind of music but i can tell you that fucking tone is TIGHT!

  • @vetmusician Me either, albet I've got a ton of baritone stuff on 2035, just trying to keep up with the times, as a rock musician, its gotta be heavy, and Drop D really isn't considered that heavy anymore... lol....

  • @SlapTabs Thats a pretty standard Superstrat config. The Ibanez RG range is an example. They might have wiring diagrams on the Ibanez website or elsewhere on the internet.

  • Hell yeah, monstrous sound!

  • @ARobinsonization Dunno, I've heard that some of those 8 stringers put a low F on the sucker... Mines tuned down to A like a Baritone (hence the bad intonation and flabby strings). The tone on the album using better plugins sounds much fatter then this preset...
