First off you took a nice car and dump it. Second you needed to tune the engine up and it looked like your intake missing some main items thats why it ran like shit and all diesels smoke on a start

@larryhaustein You evidently don't know too much about diesel engines, or Mercedes. This wasn't a nice car. It was rusty and dirty, and I took it on trade for some work that I did. I have owned several diesel Mercedes.' This was an outstanding parts car. The engine did not need a tune up. It had seized rings on the #5 cylinder, caused by the previous owners attempt at rebuilding injectors. You do not need an air filter on a diesel for it to run correctly. They are not throttled.

haha, i junked the car, the engine went into my W123 300CD with fresh everything, runs ok now.
