  • Fantastic! This sounds to be Gilels' own version of the Liszt-Horowitz adaptation. What a titanic pianist, Gilels. Such unforced power!

  • Yes, this interpretation of Racotzi March is the best that I have got ever!

  • I've played both versions. I could give you measure numbers of cuts that GIlels makes to the original score, and measures where he uses Horowitz material, but this would take more time than I have. In any case, bottom line is, I love this recording here, and I am glad we have it, as well as Gilels playing of it in Paris.

  • @richterkleiber If you find yourself with some free time would you be able to do that? My Teacher wants me to play this and I love this version, would be very much appreciative if you could!

  • It is Berlioz's damnation of faust transcribed for thé piano by liszt.

  • Sounds like pre-emptive applause at 1:30.

  • It's sound like berlioz.

  • @QPer76 Yep,lol!!!

  • The audience starts appplausing at 1:35? It seems they don't know this masterpiece very much... By the way, a really special interpretation.

  • I personally don't like the cuts that he made to the original, but I like the fire that Gilels puts into his interpretation.

  • Granted that Gilels added power to the original but this is not at all like the Horowitz version. You need to re-play both the "original" and the Horowitz versions.

This playing is very nice but it is almost all the "original".

  • I checked the score of the Liszt original, and Gilels adds many sections which also appear in the Horowitz version. This is for sure not the original Liszt version.
