the only duramax's to have a wastegate on the turbo from the factory were the lb7s (2001-2004) 2004.5 and up dont have them

wastegate is only opened when the pre set pressure is reached. that noise you heard was called turbo bark when the air backs up in the intake and the compressor wheel is slowing down it shutters.

that can't be good for the enviroment....then we complain of global warming :)..but love the sounds :X
