It was a magical season. Undefeated. Winner of The Shoe Game by the record score of 78 to 6. MTAL League Champions. CCS D - IV Champions.
The Carmel football team finished the 2009 season with 637 points. That ranks number 34 in the California record book for most points scored in a single season. And Carmel did that in a 12 game schedule. On a per game basis, Carmel's 53-point per game average ranks 14th best on the state's all-time list. From a purely 12-game schedule standpoint, Carmel ranks second in state history in season scoring behind Modesto's Central Catholic (777 in 2005, its 64.7 per game average is highest in state history), Carmel (637, 2009), and ahead of De La Salle (618, 1997).
In 11 of 12 games Carmel scored over 40 points, including an average of 58.7 points per game during their three CCS play-off victories.
Not to be overshadowed, Carmel's defense allowed 13.5 points per game. And just 3.3 points per game in the first half while their first team defense was on the field.
For those who were part of it, the 2009 football season was a magical year.
