I DO love this song & i believe he says "Call it aftermath"

Maynard always had the intentions for ppl to come up with their own interpretation. That is one reason i have full respect to maynard when it comes to song writing. Leave your lyrics a mystery, an the fans will respect it more. this is a dark and multi-meaningful song.. Very Beautiful.

His songs in this band are not as long as the others in Tool :/

nahh dude its not dark, man u can interpret it to mean anything. in my opinion a song should mean something different to each listener. Though still important to know the meaning of songs that u really like. just my opinion though, the beat is too hot to give off a bad vibe no matter what he's singing about

@saprissa30 Not at all! It is very dark and beautiful! Most of his songs are though, LOL. Saw Tool in concert in Dallas last weekend, I WAS AN AMAZING SHOW!! Go see it if you can!

"Call it aftermath, she's turning blue."
I think it is obvious what this song is about. A girl is overdosing and someone is watching her die and trying to ignore the obvious signs of it and "Call an optimist..." make light of a very serious situation. "Ignore the smoke", where there is smoke there is fire. Something bad is happening and "i didn't want to know" they are choosing to ignore. The person can't face what is really happening.
