spanish are only people from spain. hispanics are all the people who speak the spanish language (castellano). when u say spanish u mean spain. when u say hispanic u mean the rest of the spanish speaking people and also includes the people from spain offcourse. but its not good to mix the terms. i get angry when people call south, central, and carribean people spanish, because they are not from spain. no they are not spanish they are hispanics.

Thing is, Hispanics in that part of the world do perhaps not call themselves Hispanics and are not aware of the sensitivity that exists elsewhere? To them it is Spanish music, punto. English speaking people who learn 'Spanish' as a foreign language in Central/South America do not learn Hispanish, do they? They are also not made aware of the fact that it is a sin in Spain to call Spanish 'español' and that Spanish should at all times be called 'castellano' there. Pedantry at its best.

I agree with the above comments. Spanish is from Spain, and Hispanic or Latino are Spanish-speaking people from around the world. HOWEVER, we Spanish-speaking people are ALL descendants from that country. We speak Castellano, Castillian, not Puerto Rican, Colombian, Mexicans. Too many Hispanics ignore 1492. Like it or not, you're here because of what happened on that date. No matter how hard u try, you can erase it. Next time u look in the mirror, that's a a Spanish-speaking person there. Ole.
