  • so what is the point of uv mapping if you can paint directly on a model?

  • @NightShiftMoggy You cannot paint on a model that doesn't have UV coordinates and if the UV map is poorly made, the painting results will be poor.

  • Having to choose which to get first, between ZBrush and 3D-Coat, I would have to go with the one I think I'd get the most use out of... ZBrush. But Voxel sculpting looks more useful than poly sculpting if only it had the same sculpting options as in ZBrush.

  • ZBrush is certainly the industry standard. I personally like 3D Coat not only for the price but also you can get started immediately. ZBrush has an insane interface and steep learning curve.

  • This program seems to be very nice and objective, in contrast to that freak zbrush. Yeah Zbrush sucks, why did they made it so complicated? It could be more user friendly Im sure.

  • I agree completely. I have seen fantastic work done with ZBrush, but how many years have those people been using that program? It's so freaking weird. 3D Coat has an interface that you can start working with immediately, but it's still powerful. It's also about 1/2 the price of ZBrush.

  • @bugzilla2001 i think mudbox is a pretty good middle way

  • can we export to SL?

  • Is this program free?

  • @bugzilla2001 thats why there is so much awesome work out there made with ZBrush...and so much crap made with 3D-coat....Zbrush isn't difficult at all!

  • @DocWolph Probably already bought it now, but note: with voxel sculpting, once your done you can 3D coats amazingly done re-topo tool to re-topologize the mesh so that it can be used in maya max or xsi or something as a polygon object. I use this method, and i can get through stuff much quicker now, without worrying about the constraints of topology.. w w w dot kiaran dot net click the chapter called "modelling made easier with 3D coat". (its not mine, i stumbled upon it). Eye opener :)

  • @bugzilla2001 why even discuss what to buy since you can download and get this for free. Its the new age.

  • 'Hmm I wonder if I crashed?'

It is to be expected though. I have noticed 3d Coat crashes really easily.

  • hi thanks for tut, i have an educational version of 3dcoat, I have UV'd my character, when i attempt to paint on a specific part of body (any part) the paint is applied to the whole body, would you know why?

  • zbrush is a shit

  • they are both awesome, Zbrush isn't complicated its complex, you make it complicated.
