Mitt Romney has been trying to make light of his offer of a $10,000 bet to Texas Governor Rick Perry during a US presidential candidate's debate in Iowa.

Saturday's offer, over what Romney wrote in his book about Massachusetts' controversial healthcare law that he
helped engineer as governor, appears to have given further impetus to his detractors.

They see the multi-millionaire as a man of considerable wealth, who is out of touch with a public continuing to suffer in the middle of an economic crisis.

Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports from Washington.

  • this is such a waste of time. the least crazy of the bunch is ron paul. and compared to the avg uneducated voter in america, hes freaking crazy. it would be great if for just 1 minute, we could put invisible friends aside when we are talking about humanity. im all for people having faith in what ever. be it god or the steelers. but, i dont want my president talking to him self in a corner before he decides to go to war with people. cuz of the style of hat they wear. ~end rant~

  • The roman empire wasn't taken down by lead pipelines and barbarians alone. Internal corruption and feelings of hopelessness, apathy and nihilism ran through the average citizen. The great scholars died and people distracted themselves with the gladiator fights and their own petty grievances. And then most of the world fell into a dark age. I would hate to see history repeat itself... If the voices of reason don't scream out for change and revive liberty, then we're fucked!

  • @77raymondt Your definitions and beliefs is what makes it seem stupid!

Why should you let big government decide where to invest our earnings?

We are the only species that has to pay to live on the planet, only to keep raping it and killing each-other?

People pay taxes not to liberate themselves or invest on what its right or necessary, but to perpetuate a system that enslaves them and take away their rights.

Ron Paul is the only one Awake in there that understands that quite profoundly.

  • @callmeyang is he really? getting rid of the IRS is being human? so stupid.

  • @KlingonSpider Though I see your point... and it's a generally good one...

... Israel would not be a country if it was not for the US. From taking the land after WW2 for Israel, to providing a military, economic funding every year since its inception....

.... ya, Israel is VERY important. It's the "mini-USA" of the Middle-East.

hmmmm.... a Jewish President? Then all your Federal fiscal worries would go away...and give us a real reason to chat about Israel for reals! : )

  • Newt and Romney are surly CON-servitors when ot comes to American people, there sure a lot of them, a big joke on all there gullible warmonger supporters, no wonder why America is falling. it

  • I didn't think Mormons where suppose to gamble...

  • "Let's be candid" the only reason Newt left Congress is that he was about to be kicked out for accepting $300,000, against the ethics rules that everyone in Congress is subject to.

One of the most vile creatures to ever be elected to Congress, Newt and friends brought the US to a new low, touting Voodoo Economics gave us more, when the truth was exactly the opposite.

A decidedly idiotic representative of the Christian-Right, Newt would kill the US economy, and may be EXACTLY what we need.
