Walking in the Air Theme from The Snowman, by Howard Blake
Making this was a bit of a funny one mainly because there is no official complete score of the piece in its entirety for solo piano available!!!
Truly confounded I reached this conclusion after much searching for one, all in vain. Apparently the uber eccentric British composer Blake is very particular about releasing his music for publication! Great!
Anyhoo, so what I did was to take the edition of the piece published for piano as accompaniment with a solo boy soprano and change it slightly. First, I transcribed the part of the solo boy soprano piano up one octave and then embellished the bare notes by making them simple chords major 3rds, perfect 5ths and such. I also departed from the run of the score by omitting the weirdy bit (where the drunk dude sees them fly by and he questioningly looks at his drink) as it kinda alters the tone of the piece a lot for such a short phrase I also got rid of one of the repeats, for brevity.
Also, the ending, (the last few bars) which I borrowed and embellished (ever so slightly adding my own notes etc) following the same format as above, from a different rendition of the piece published elsewhere in the main score book there is a change of key from F major to D major. Funnily enough, the piece was originally composed by Blake and called, Walking in the Air in C Sharp Minorin C Sharp Minor!!!
Anyway, none of you probably care about any of the above :P Pardon the minor fail towards the end the score that Im reading from is the original (lacking) one published which I embellished and altered I didnt actually mark any of the changes in the score I played all the changes as I went along, using the score as my guide :P
Lyrics for those of you who would like to sing along :P
We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly
I'm holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you
On across the world
The villages go by like dreams
the rivers and the hills
The forests and the streams
Children gaze open mouthed
Taken by surprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes
We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy
mountains floating by
Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep
We're walking in the air
We're dancing in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly
I'm holding very holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you
On a different note, for those of you who like to read, I've written a novel which can now be found on Amazon Kindle. Here is a link to the US store. The book is also available in other territories too, like the UK, France, Germany etc. Check it out!
