The awesome Typhoon at RIAT on the saturday, I couldn't film the whole display as the camcorder ran out of batteries but we only lost 2 minutes and still got 6.

  • no offence to who ever shot the footage but this was awful compared to the bae 1 that took place 2 months ago for the very 1st delivery to the saudi prince...that was summot else seein it tailwalk down runway with full afterburners...amazin a/c and miles cheaper that F22

  • Well BAE would have used professional tripod mounted TV cameras, cameras mounted on helicopters, mounted on the aircraft itsself and would have had a whole filmcrew to get several different angles. They also would have had a backroom staff to edit and alter the footage all with the intent of selling a military aircraft in a £4.5 billion arms deal. I'm a guy who took a Sony Handycam to an airshow and uploaded it to youtube. Bit of a difference.

  • Not an F2. This aircraft is an FGR4. This year was the first time that the FGR4 variant was used for public displays.

  • Nope, it was an F2. It's a part of No. 29 Sqaudron, based at RAF Conigsby, they don't operate the FGR4 yet.

  • only 20,000 pounds of thrust but that thing roars!!

  • Have a look at the HD video ending in 4yQPDHJgLlE

On the Sat and Sun the airframe used was serial ZJ924 with the tail code DD from 11 Sqn. The pilot of course was from 29 Squadron.

ZJ924 was originally delivered as an F2. It went through the upgrade and conversion during 2008 to FGR4 status.

Type ZJ924 into the web for further details.

  • Incorrect. Have a look on your video around the 2:50 mark onwards. It is not a 29 Squadron Typhoon. As has happened in the past aircraft are borrowed from other Squadrons. In the past 3 and 11 Squadron aircraft have been used. 2009 is the first year that the FGR4 variants have been used with the aircraft borrowed from the other Squadrons. From the 2:50 mark you will see the PIRATE sensor near to the canopy and you will also see the 11 Sqn markings either side of the roundel.

  • I think that this was very good footage. I have seen a lot worse. Well done. The display was fantastic! I was there =P

  • i was only saying haha

  • The only glory in war is living through it...........

    Why so bitter??????????Devineheavelylight...

  • Depends, in a BVR air to air skirmish I'd rather have the F-22. In a dogfight or a close air support mission I'd rather have the Typhoon. The F-22 is a better air superiority fighter, no denying that. But it's air to ground role and weapons capacity are limited by it's stealth features. We also have no need for an extreme stealth aircraft, we aren't going to be fighting anyone we'd need one for in the next 50 years. You're obviously just an internet troll trying to piss people off, get a life.

  • HEY ClarksonsinUSA...there are two types of men...those who hide behind big rocks and those that stand and FIGHT!....and whats happened to your oh so lovely f22....too expensive...now it really is a stealthy plane!!..so stealty you wont see any ha ha ha...long live the typhoon!!!...and remeber you tit..this is an airshow not a very good demonstration of its real role..it can do alot more than your implied drawbacks suggest!....mr US of bullshit A!

  • There are 2 kinds of fighter aircraft targets and Stealth..............

Which would you want to be????????????

  • Yeah, and to think you nearly bought the Rafale :P. Worked out well though, makes a nice addition to an already powerful airforce. F15s, Tornado IDSs/F3s and now the Typhoon.

  • nice!

    thank god we have it!
