why are groups with 4 singers and a pianist called quartets?

@chipperfan52698 I read a blog about that, and they discussed how that's just the Southern Gospel way. A southern gospel quartet is four singers, so technically, the piano player or other instrumentalists don't fall under the singer category.

@chipperfan52698 Yeah, they're referring to the singers. I never even questioned this. Who counts the singer?

@BnCSGMusic I'd agree with that - it's a quartet of the VOICES, Just as it's the Talley Trio, never mind that they have a backing musician/s. It's always the voices at the front isn't it, unless it's a group where some or all of the singers also play instruments which is different again.
