06/20/10 involved a lot of luck. I woke up and flipped on the scanner. A couple seconds after turning it on, I heard IC 1021 east, receiving a track authority out of Joliet. I quickly got my stuff together and made way to the tracks. Metra saved me as the Rock Road Dispatcher held the 1021 for an extra fifteen minutes. I still barely made it to the tracks, with very little time to spare. IC 1021, IC 1004, CN 2649 and GTW 6226 rumble east, with what I later found out was the M338. Joliet, IL.

The two black panthers up front gave me motivation to give chase. I continued my way down Laraway Road, until I reached Frankfort. As I arrived by the tracks, I saw a CN vehicle, with two yellow vested employees standing nearby. Assuming that it was a recrew, I continued a little further east, until I reached Ridgeland Avenue. I parked the car and waited. About twenty minutes went by and I heard the new crew contacting the CN RTC. They were given their next two track authorities and then they were on the move, eastbound. Ten minutes later, they arrived at my location. Frankfort, IL.

I began to make my way home. While driving along Route 30, I realized that an outbound Metra was minutes away. Metra F40PH-2 179 is in charge. Joliet, IL.

As I was continuing my drive home, I crossed the CN Joliet Sub in Joliet and was shocked to see the Oil Local (L5439), waiting to head south. The southbound Oil Local is usually through Joliet during the night, but it was apparently running late today. From where I was, I could see that there was a GTW on the point. I made my way to the BNSF Chillicothe Sub, the line that the Oil Local would hop on, for the short trip to Logistics Park. U.D. Tower gave the train permission right away. As the train was approaching me, I could tell that a GP9R was on the point. Not too many of those remain in service. With veteran 4622 in the lead, GTW (CN) 5844 was filling in the second position. Joliet, IL.

After a good morning, it was off to work for me. Thanks for watching!
