@TTTThatsAllFolks -- i think i get your frustration; it's either too gleeful or too warbly & opera-like; hmph. PEOPLE. i didn't know though, that Ms. Elias was even in the running as a mark of comparison. (saw her in LITP; wunnuful!)

@buckdelaney Hmph. Would you be happier if the vibrato-less Menzel sang "One More Kiss" or something? LOL! Yikes, guys. It may, also, be relevant to add that they're, well, NOT singing this show operatically...? With the exception, of course, of the divine Ms. Elias. If Cook or McDonald were cast as either leading lady, I could hear what you're saying. But, since that's not the case, I'm going to go ahead and diagnose you with PTHS (Pretentious Theater-Head Syndrome). :)

Anybody know if there is a full video of this production anywhere?

Stop singing it sondheim is brilliant conversationally

Sad, one of the things i love about Sondheim is the that the songs are "conversational" as if just speaking....these people, even BP which i've only seen her do in the sad sad production of Gypsy (So brilliant Sunday in the Park) decides they need to sing this operatically sad sad sad and all is lost

darn, Bernadette P is one of my favs...but she clearly has gotten a face lift (her eyes alone look bizarre) Darn... :-(
This revival is a masterpiece! You would be a fool to miss it if you can get to New York to the Marquis Theater to see it. We won't see another such revival for many many years to come. The cast is ideal. The execution close to flawless, The 28-piece orchestra is divine as it lets loose on the classic Stephen Sondheim score. I was laughing and crying almost simultaneously at the nostalgic poignancy, wit and class of this wonderful show.

Why do the songs BP sings sound like they have slowed them down, a bit laboured like your are willing her to start the next line each time?
