Sandra Steingraber, Ph.D., ecologist, poet, mother, and activist gave an incredible speech during a rally in Albany NY, May 2, 2011, to ban fracking in NY state. Sandra's story about her cancer and finding out that her cancer is linked to the drinking water or her hometown became a movie called Living Downstream (www.livingdownstream.com), based on a book she wrote about her discoveries. I have heard Sandra speak only twice, but both times have felt quite moved by her words.

  • a truly wonderful speech, filled with facts, not excuses.

  • Lady Lady please stick to being a mother and part time poet because your not very good at any other position. where did all those water bottles come from ? another crazy soap box chatter box

  • Metaphor: (Us vs. them) The People's Responsible Government For The People By The People vs. corporate controlled private interests who have been doing their manipulative criminal best to steal what's rightfully ours in order to dominate us, and how this incredibly frustrating; potentially crazy-making, heartbreaking and unhealthy dynamic resembles the alchoholic family structure. The corporate criminals being the insane "alcoholics," and The People being the inevitable in-response "alanonics."

  • This woman is AMAZING.. Her speech was/is so powerful! I was there at the rally for all of the many incredible speakers, all of whom I felt moved, inspired, enriched, and motivated by. This woman in particular said it all so beautifully, as though she was speaking words right out of my mind & mouth (though I do not yet have a P.H.D. nor the title of a mother to children...) We share a similar way of thinking about things it seems; like-minded. I have linked and spoken of that same metaphor.

  • Best metaphor of the day! She's really incredible. What a great day!
