This is a belt CVT animation by me, created with Inventor 2011 for a presentation at the university. Might contain inadequacies, but it's created mostly for showing the basic concept of a CVT.

  • i need your help if you may, i would like to know how did you make the belt move with motion of the variator?

and is it possible on solidworks?

  • @adigazgurt Hi! The belt is a trapezoid profile swept around a line (two circular arcs and two straight lines, connected with tangent constraints). I just animated the arcs' diameters as variable parameters, and modified the axial displacement of the belt to and fro (this is an animation, not a simulation). From there it's just a matter of constraints. I'm sure it can be made in SW, although I don't know how. Hope this helped.

  • thank you very much that was very helpful, do you think that you can insert a belt, and make its dimensions variable same way you did here, then make a simulation?

another approach i am thinking of, adding two motors, with one constant as Driver, another variable to an expression related to the ARCs radius?

    any ideas?

  • Thanks Boz.
