  • Amjad Khan does another Gabbar in this scene....

  • wht hes doing tht wht every monarch does to hide his own corruption ad wrong doings...good work by satyjit jee..

  • the best piece of work,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Bengal was the richest state in India before the British Empire took over. They started growing opium to export it to China. Millions of people died in Bengal due to lack of food. They are doing the same thing all over the World, with different names World Bank, IMF ect.,

  • Clive of Bengal and his East India Company is now massing in Afghanistan doing what he did originally 200 odd years ago, peddling heroin/opium.

  • It is not an uncommon gift in India among the mystical to perceive the future...even if it seems unpalatable, and one wishes to deny it because of its unpleasantness.

Art, especially cinema would be an excellent medium to convey ones mystical perceptions......and Ray sahib in going out of norm area of coverng bread and butter issues in West Bengal has done an excellent service for South Asia.

  • @randominitializer

I don't think Ray sahib had a crystal ball, but I do happen to think that certain artists are gifted with prophetic visions, and that throughout the ages talented artist, as well as the not so talented ones have used art to express their socio-political agenda's...classic example being the painters of Europe circa 1400----- to the present, and that cinema is the most comprehensive medium for that is the latest and probably the best...

  • mostaqueify, there were no Zardari/Gilani when Satyajit Ray was making this movie. If you are indicating towards the universality of Satyajit's art, then yes it can be related to India, Bangladesh, Pakistan or anywhere in the world. Satyajit in this specific movie, is portraying a real incident. I dont know why you are bringing Pakistan again and again!

  • is this no subtitle?

  • Satyajit Ray has also very perceptively picked up on the Celtic agenda being played by certain people.......

Replace Attenborough's character with General McCrystals.......replace Oudh with Pakistan...........replace the Nawab of Oudh with Zardari/Gilani of the Pakistani Zamindari Tamindari class...

The sheer cowardice of Saeed Jaffrey's character attacking his OWN for no good reason.....The Pakistan military against India, East Pakistan, Baluchistan, and now the NWFP.
