They love to lay down in soft sand or soft dirt, usually about one hour a day. Wild horses do the same.

This is interesting. My ex boyfriend is a caretaker for a preserve. Such a different lifestyle. I knew nothing about it. It's similar to being a ranch hand, however he doesn't ride horses. He's a glorified gardener and ditch digger.
