  • @manufacturedfracture Of course I don't mean to say; preheat the thermite shot w/ a torch! (But I bet you could already figure that out.) Heating the wire, rod, and mold slightly does help, if damp.

  • @manufacturedfracture First thing's first, dump the sheet metal gun! Use a magnesium fire striker! (at camping stores.)The mold, penny, shot, conductors, rod, Everything must be very dry! A little preheating w/ a torch works well. If moisture is present it will cause splatter as seen here. Mold must be cool. If too warm the load will not be cooled fast enough and will run out. You can only fire the mold 6 times an hour (80F. ambient) if mold is put in cool shady place between firings.
