Let me guess... you were raised Catholic? I agree that the church(when you say THE I must assume you mean the Catholic Church, seeing how that is how it has referred to itself) has a history of both, but the Church is not God, it is the church. They have been on the wrong side of many issues in the past, if you don't believe me ask Galileo
Over the years we have all been lied to by many false Religous Leaders and so called prophets. Many things we have been taught are not even in Scripture and millions have swallowed so many lies by these false leaders. If you are a truth seeker please visit the web site which is displayed in our user name and take the time to read some of the articles... You will be very shocked. There is a great audio there for you to listen to. You will come away asking many questions. Blessings Thanks Ben
Wow, it's almost like you've never read the bible. Here are a few specific New Testament contradictions that cannot be taken out of context. I've got a list of about 200 of these.
There were 28 generations from David to Jesus. Mt.1:17. There were 43 generations from David to Jesus. Lk.3:23-31.
Judas hanged himself. Mt.27:5. Judas fell headlong and burst his head open. Acts 1:18.
Jesus was crucified at the third hour. Mk.15:25. Jesus was still before Pilate at the sixth hour. Jn.19:13,14.
My Bible says that there were 14 generations from abraham to david and 14 from david to babylon and 14 generations to jesus. that is 43. Judas killed himself either way. a day then was from even to even or sunset to sunset so jesus was with pilate on the sixth hour of that even and a new day begun at sunrise. jesus was crucified on the 3rd hour of the next day.
Just sit down and read this story and you'll know that what your trying to disprove has no grounds, remember you need to read the whole story to know this. Its cool though, you might like the story!!!
You act as if I haven't read the bible. I do, quite often in fact. My wife and I have weekly discussions about various portions of the bible as a 'bonding process', using the King James and New International translations.
If you read both stories that I offered, the entire chapter in fact, you'll find that it's a very glaring contradiction. That's all I wanted to illustrate.
Exactly, there is a penalty for murder. the tribes were not exempt from judgement. The church does not tell me how to interpret the Bible. You have to study and understand why God did what he did. He was and is in control and he needed to show that, When the tribes rebelled against Moses and worshipped the golden calf, God punished those that would have infected the others. Those that repented were saved. See the world today with man in control?? God finally said ok you choose me or Satan.

problem is, most people cannot separate the two.
most people rely on the church to tell them what is gods will....instead of seeking a spritual connection with god themselves...
if people only read thier scriptures......

Now, flip over to Luke 3:23-31. There are a whole lot more than 28 generations listed. By name, in order:
David, Nathan, Mattatha, Menan, Melea, Eliakim, Jonan, Joseph, Juda, Simeon, Levi, Matthat, Jorim, Eliezer, Jose, Er, Elmodam, Cosam, Addi, Melchi, Neri, Salathiel ,Zorobabel, Rhesa, Joanna, Juda, Joseph, Semei, Mattathias, Maath, Nagge, Esli, Naum, Amos, Mattathias, Joseph, Janna, Levi, Matthat, Heli, Joseph, Jesus.
