    I think it's a punchline that's "in reverse" to normal jokes, kinda like the long 1st part was the punchline and funny part. Which I think makes it one of the most classic and funny punchlines ever.

    Gilbert has also said in another instance of telling this joke "the dirtiest joke ever told". I didn't "get" the punchline when I 1st heard it as well. Now I know better LOL. :)
