Guam- Another Police Shooting Death

Another Guam shooting death in one year. A 27-year-old Palauan man, Darson Rekemesik, died after being shot by police Friday night in his Dededo home. According to police, a man holding a machete and a knife was standing in front of the house, repeated attempts were made to persuade the man to drop his weapons. The officer called for assistance five more officers, including a precinct shift supervisor arrived. The man then ran into the house followed by officers. They repeatedly told him to drop his weapons, but he refused, GPD officer spokesman said. Officers then sprayed him with mace. An officer shot the man after he "lunged" toward the them. The man died at the Guam Memorial Hospital at 10:55 pm. Around 8:30 p.m. Friday is when events started to unfold. Total of 2&1/2hrs.

There are alternative weapons for Police to use. CS or Pepper Gas sprays - Tasers - NLW

bullets that can be fired from a shootgun that shoot little Bean bags or even the wood block charge shell to knock people down.

If Police here in the Philippines have those options at hand why doesn't GPD? Tear gas is CS gas basically it'll knock anyone out if in a spray or at least make them disorinted enough for a takedown.

such a shame... Am sure the MP's at the Naval base or Anderson AFB could train GPD.

The man clearly had a mental disorder. I don't know why 5 men, who happen to be cops, couldn't take down 1 man without using a gun. He could have shot the gun upward enough to calm him down or at least shoot a non-vital area of his body like the leg or the arm. Shooting a him was very uncalled for. Aren't cops trained for that. I hope these kind of accidents don't happen too often
