Ammonia Leak Hazmat At 15th And Fillmore On 7-18-08 In Gary Indiana

Engine 3 was dispatched to a report of a strong smell of ammonia in the area of 15th and Fillmore. When the ammonia tank was located the crew requested a full still. An evacuation was ordered for surrounding houses just south of the leak. The Battalion Chief requested Lake County's hazmat team to assist with the leak and residual effects. Crews were on scene for several hours working and one worker at the demo site was removed by EMS

unless you're a part of law enforcement or some sort of official, I find it a little suspicious that you always have footage of these little occurances in Gary. Perhaps you're an arsonist? lol.

Hi there, two questions for you:

1) So the whistling was the noise the ammonia gas made while escaping the two holes in the tank? I've "heard" leaks like that before, just never one that sounded like a steam whistle!

2) Why was there an ammonia tank at a dairy that's been closed for decades? Or was it there for the scrapping operation on site?
