This is from George Friedrich Handel's oratorio 'Messiah'

For those of you who may wonder, I have served as an organist at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace, Honolulu, Hawaii for the past 17 years. This was done all as a volunteer. I played the organ for the 0900, 1030, and 1800 masses, accompanied both cathedral's main and Samoan choirs, and gave free organ recitals from time to time. I also accompanied the Hawaii Pacific University's International Vocal Ensemble when the performed at the cathedral and required organ accompaniment. I also did on the spot minor repairs to the organ - even crawling up into the chamber to remove a ciphering pipe during mass!! I have been called by the church office on very short notice to play the organ for weddings and funerals and needed to suddenly negotiate taking time off from my regular job to make this happen. For me playing the organ is not considered as a 'job', it is rather considered a deeply passionate ministry in the Roman Catholic Church.

  • @hawchubby39 THANK YOU! I couldn't have said it better myself! The time for real music to come back to the Catholic Church has come! Enough of this tripe most "modern" Catholics are used to. Let's have more of this. More of this glorious, timeless music. Good music is like fine architecture, timeless. There is a very special place in Heaven for G.F. Handel.

  • The tempo you took it at was wonderful! You really made the organ sound good, and the choir followed along nicely!

  • I thought the organ was closer to 35 ranks. While commentators bemoaned 'modernists' and that the Roman Catholic Church looks down on music such as this, I note that this video is shot in the Catholic Church in downtown Honolulu.

  • this is pretty good!

  • beautiful Catholic choir.

  • Its Funny how Modernist have tried to Kick out the Traditionalist from every room of the Catholic Church. Strange how this type of music is look down upon and is thought to be outdated. Wait my Brother, the time is near. God has reclaimed the Catholic Church. The Glory of the High Altar will return to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. St. Cecilia will no long weep from her perch upon her beautiful organ of the Cathedral. God has spoken though our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI.

  • Thats funny that you had to climb into a pipe chamber. This happened when I was kid at our local church. The funniest choir director on earth immediately jumped up and said, "Lets open to any hymn in that key."

Sorry about the politics. It always ruins a church.

  • Also, I managed to pull off the organ accompaniment without a combination action (which is out of service). The organ is a 40-rank Aolean-Skinner.

  • What is the tempo marking on this movement? I didn't realize it was Andante!
